How we support

How we support our EYPP children.

Autumn Term - September to December 2019

No EYPP was claimed during this period.

Spring Term - January to March 2020

This term some of the EYPP money was used to send all the staff on Speech and Language development training run by the Cambridgeshire SALT Team. The Speech and Language therapist provided the staff with strategies in regards to speech and language development. Staff have been taught about what is expected for the different age groups across the preschool and how to identify if children are behind with their development. When evaluating the training provided with the staff, they have said it has been useful to have strategies refreshed to them as a group and have also valued the tools they have been given, which can be used to assess whether they feel a child requires support. This has made it easier for them to identify any other children within preschool who may need additional support in a quick and efficient manner. The Preschool Team now have an understanding of the SALT pathway to support parents and can talk first-hand about what to expect.  From this training, the team have supported a number of parents to assess the drop-in clinics in our local area, in order to access initial support at home.

Summer Term - April to August 2020

This term we have had our normal sessions interrupted by having to close the setting for a few weeks due to Covid 19.

However, we have continued to support all of our families in receipt of EYPP by carrying out doorstep deliveries of learning resources. These have been planned individually and varied due to the child's interests and ability. Working with the child's keyworker and the child's parents we have ensured progress has continued during the weekly conversations held with our parents and children, new ideas on how to extend the child's learning in a fun, practical way was shared and the parents were confident to carry out. This work was then shared with the setting via tapestry. The packs have included a wide range of resources such as fine motor skill games with tweezers and pom poms, to scissors activity to practicing cutting skills. White boards and pens, linking cubes, orchard toy board games and story boxes were delivered in the second wave after conversations with parents to see what would be of most benefit to the child and families we were supporting. We have had really positive feedback from the parents about the quality and range of activities available in the doorstep packages, and these have had a positive impact to the families we supported. Once the children returned in June 2020, it was clear the amount of home learning had an impact with many of our targeted children, demonstrating improved confidence and skill in the areas we had supported.

"Thank you for the amount of support you have shown us over the last few months. **** loves the story box and will chat away with the mini dinosaurs and animals for hours. She will set up the scene then rearrange it countless times. **** loves the cutting game too. I would have gone crazy without your support but if I never have to play princess snap again I will be a happy lady. Thanks again" - EYPP Parent comment
